Housing Units.
Moving forward from my brickwork study of Manchester, I explored the combination of two bricks in creating variety between the housing blocks to give a sense of identity.

The treatment of the facade plays with the notion of solid & void giving the facade a sense of depth & allowing the brickwork to be read homogeneously. Deeply recessed windows & terraces modulate the building’s facade. The openings are offset from one another to make work alongside the complexity of the residential accommodation.
Diagram showing the modulation of the facade & offset openings
In developing the facades of the housing units, the placement of openings facing on to the courtyard area have been offset from one another to create a greater level of privacy for the residents as even though the overall aim of the scheme is one of connectivity & interaction, there is still the need for private spaces.
Possible combination of brick work, creating a connection back to the heavy/light aspect of the communal building by playing on the notion of dark & light.
