MSSA PRESENTS_ WOAH.
With homelessness being such a prevalent issue within the urban context of Manchester, we feel that as Architecture students we have a responsibility and a set of skills that can be utilised to help in some way, thus WOAH (Without A Home) came about.
In order to provide us with a base understanding of this incredibly complex issue, we held introductory lectures from local Labour councillor Beth Knowles and Jed from the Mustard Tree Foundation, both who are heavily involved with the issue. Alongside the wider student body, we held a design charrette day that investigated a series potential small scale proposals, with the potential to be developed into established networks.
Homeless Festival:
Explored how social events could be utilised to raise awareness & build networks that would create an increasingly co-ordinated response to the issue as one of the major issues is that people often do not know who they can contact and what processes they must go through.

Mobile Exhibition:
Focused on creating a safe of reflection & story telling, this proposal investigated how the perception of homelessness could be broken down through a shared space that was adaptable & mobile.

Market Place:
Aiming to utilise the existing creative community and facilities of Art School, the third proposal proposed an exchange of skills and a market place that would provide a human connection breaking down societal perceptions & offer some kind of income to the homelessness community.
