Co-housing in Kvistgard, Denmark

Originally developed in the 70's as a prototype for co-housing, the modular spaces are easily adaptable & offer variation to its inhabitants.

I think that each unit having a view out & a gradient of privacy from public courtyards, semi public terraces & private roof gardens greatly contributed to the projects success as residents retained a degree of autonomy, something I think is very important & will try to implement into my own design.

1-6 Copper Lane, London

It was London's first co-housing project & developed on a dense site.  I think the focus on 'communality' with the houses being arranged in a cluster with the courtyard playing a central role is very effective as  all of the community spaces sit underneath it.

I like the shared simple palette materials while being give a generous provision of light.

Peter Barber

Homeless Hostel in London

What interested me about this project was it enabled people from very different backgrounds & perspectives to live together in close quarters. I think that the variation between the units, offering both self contained ones & shared flats for more social individuals, & how support is integrated into the design is very successful.

Civic Centre in Visegard

The flexibility of the building's programme was an interesting aspect of this design for me & I think will be very helpful towards my design.  The building opening up to the surrounding community is another aspect of the design which is effective as it invites residents in.

Reidmatt Square

This project effectively reclaimed streets in a traffic heavy area of the town through the use of green space directing circulation.

San Martin de la Mer Square

The clean simple lines coupled with the green space creates a pleasant & inviting space which will be useful in my proposals.

I really liked the contrast between the dense housing & the wild landscaping.  I think the softened the mass of the blocks which can often be very stark.

Paprocany Waterfront

Thinking about the wider area of Stretford, I thought that this waterside rejuvenation was very effective as it gives ample space for recreational activities.
