Landscaping.

Due to the importance of contextualising my scheme, the wider landscaping became a powerful tool for creating the connection with the wider community & ensuring that the scheme interacted inclusively at the wider community.  It was essential for the  landscaping to utilise the staggered housing arrangement to avoid creating dead space & also encourage user driven programme within the spaces to encourage a sense of ownership over the spaces and scheme.

The landscaping scheme connects the building programme, university site to the wider city context. The scheme creates a “brocade” and forming an oasis amid the dense, urban location, reviving a formerly inactive area.  The circulation route was an aspect of the design that I felt would be an effective method of maintaining current circulation routes around the site & ground the green space of Dorset Road.

Although this intervention is a developed as a roof top scheme, the organic form creates 'pockets' of space where integrated seating allows for more intimate environments to be created.  The bold use of colour creates a playful dimension to the design as it weaves the spaces together  Taking the principles of this scheme & applying it to mine resulted in the utilisation of the alcove spaces & the contrast in organic & geometric forms places a focus on these intimate spaces.

LANDSCAPING STRATEGY.

Macro, Meso, Mirco

To fully make use of the spaces created through the staggered housing arrangement, seating is integrated into flower beds to allow for more intimate spaces within the scheme.

Low level planters create a subtle threshold between the walkway & open courtyard space.

MIRCO

MESO

Walkway becomes a feature connecting the various housing block with playful brick perforations creating obscured views which provide privacy & mirror the effect of the channel glazing on the communal building.

Courtyard space is left free of programme to allow for resident driven use.

MARCO

Dorset Street is converted to green space & cranked walkways create connections to wider Stretford.

Disused subway space is converted to community allotments for both my scheme & the wider community.
